Sometimes referred to as William Frederick Haas, as seen with his signature, De Haas was best known for his coastal Maine scenes of rocky shorelines and cliffs with crashing waves. De Haas emigrated from Rotterdam in 1854 and set up his studio in New York City. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design from 1865-1880.
