Russell were contemporaries who painted together and often depicted the same subject matter. Steve Seltzer continued to paint in this manner and was known his genre and landscape paintings of the west and was most notable for illustrating the life of the Native American Indian on the western plains and mountains. This example, On The Hunt, captures Seltzer keen ability as an artist and as he explains, “subject matter comes second to the atmosphere, the feeling, the flavor of [what he] wants to suggest.”
