Victor DeGrailly was among one of the more prolific Hudson River School artists. Most of his works were based on engravings from Henry Bartlett’s book, American Scenery, published in 1840. He had a real fascination and interest with the Hudson Valley. This painting clearly represents his work showing figures in the foreground and an expansive view of the Hudson with boats.
