Trade Sign, “Canaries”

American, late 19th c./early 20th c.

Pine with sandpaper, gilt and paint.

Fine condition, weathered more on one side, minor losses.

A wonderful, charming trade sign for a merchant selling canaries, presumably for “14” cents as advertized. The design of the sign is enhanced by the contrasting black background and gilt lettering.
