The John Herbert Ware Family Ship Weathervane

Carved laminated wood, tin sails, painted.
Over-all in fine condition, minor repairs and imperfections, some later paint on sails.
Provenance: Commissioned for John Herbert Ware’s Thorncroft Estate at West Chop, Martha’s Vineyard, 1918; to his daughter, Louise Dudley Ware, Wild Acres, Martha’s Vineyard, 1936; removed and taken with Louise and her family to California in 1948; gifted to Michael Ian Bruce (Louise’s son-in-law), following his 1st place world record Trans Pacific Race, 1957, California; descended thru Ware/Bruce family line.
Frank Adams was more commonly known as a decoy carver on Martha’s Vineyard during the first half of the 20th c., however he made schooner weathervanes on commission as well. We are offering and example Adams with an important family history and full line of descent.
