Splint-Woven Lidded Basket

New England, Eastern Algonkian, ca. 1820-1840
Ash splints, stamped with dyes
Excellent condition, very minor losses, wonderful oxidized surface.
Provenance: Private collection, Connecticut.
This fabulous splint-woven basket with original lid is potato-stamp decorated with an interesting design pattern. These baskets were made mostly by indigenous people in New England.
