Schoharie Paint-Decorated Blanket Chest

Pine, polychrome decorated surface.
In a fine state of preservation, original paint decoration protected by several layers of varnish, now oxidized. Original throughout, interior lock plate replaced.
Provenance: Descended through a private family collection since the 1950’s.
The molded-edge lift-top opens to a well fitted with a covered till. The dovetailed case is supported by applied bracket feet. The front panel is highly decorated and depicts an urn with flowers having elongated tendrils, floral buds and petals surrounded by a border with matching motifs.
