Rare Signed One Drawer Stand
Probably Loudon County, Virginia, ca. 1800.
Signed on underside of the drawer: Amos Beale Hand 1800.
Walnut, poplar secondary.
Over-all in excellent condition, wear to top commensurate to age and use, old varnish finish.
Provenance: Private Collection of a prominent Pennsylvania dealer.
This rare and unusual stand has a two board bread-board end top with a molded edge above a small drawer conforming to a canted and shaped skirt on all four sides. The stand is supported by fully fluted splay legs, which are extremely rare to find and the most distinctive feature of this piece. The stand was made by Amos Beale from Hillsboro, Loudon County, Virginia, who appears on the 1830 census.
