Rare Pair of Carved Gilt-Wood Eagles

English or American, early 19th c.
Pine, gesso and gilt.
Over-all in fine condition, old repair to one wing, original gilt with minor touch-ups. Plinths are of a later date.
This rare pair of diminutive eagles facing left and right most likely adorned a mantle or desktop. They are finely carved and executed while retaining a wonderful oxidized original gilt surface.
