Rare Catlinite Carved Fish Pipe Stem
Sioux Indian, Eastern Plains Region, second half of the 19th c. Carved red stone. Customary wear, two old repairs, nice patina. This extremely rare figural pipe stem depicting two fish is carved and incised with fine attention to the detailing of the scales and body of the fish. Most likely used for ceremonial purposes.
