Queen Anne Heart and Crown Armchair
Coastal Connecticut, ca. 1730-1750. Possibly attributed to Andrew Durant, Milford, Connecticut.
Maple and Ash.
Over-all in great condition, later rush seat, retaining an old refinished surface.
Provenance: Private collection, Litchfield, Connecticut. Purchased from Harold Corbin, 1980’s.
Heart and Crown chairs were primarily made in the coastal Connecticut region and examples in this condition are rare to find. The scrolled crest with a pierced heart rests above molded bannisters and is flanked by boldly turned stiles. The carved shaped arms and rush seat are supported by turned legs and joined with turned stretchers.
