This charming portrait of a Sea Captain is painted in a wonderful folky manner. The artist incorporates a vignette most likely depicting the Captain’s ship through the window. The composition of the flowing drapery

in the background above a raised panel wall while the captain is seated in a chair expresses his stature as a wealthy merchant.

Condition: Lined, original stretcher mounted on replaced stretcher. Retains original frame.
