Paul Edouard Delabrierre (1829-1912)
Bronze Labrador with Hare.
French, ca. 1890, Signed (l.l. on base): Delabrierre.
Bronze.
Fine condition, with wonderful patina. Purchased in Paris, “Le Passage”.
This bronze sculpture exemplifies Delabrierre’s ability to capture the pose of his animal subjects as seen here with the Labrador instinctually retrieving the Hare. He was an important member of the Animalier school in late 19th century Paris, and in the last two years of his career, introduced cast iron as a legitimate material for sculpture. Delabrierre first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1848 and continued until 1882.
