Great condition, original paint with some craquelure.
Provenance: Mayer Collection, American Primitive gallery, New York, 1983. Taken directly off a roof of a summer gazebo in Michigan, presumably in the early 1980’s.
A rare and possibly unique carved and polychrome painted figure of a peacock mounted on a sphere with gilt copper scroll-work. A wonderful stylized statuesque form with a beautiful painted surface. A classic piece of American folk art.
