Inscribed: Markreda Conradin, 1806
Poplar, polychrome paint; pine secondary
Condition: Restoration to the front right foot and back right foot facing. Black paint restored on the feet, otherwise all other paint decoration is in excellent condition. Original hardware.
The chest is highlighted with three tomb-stone panels with white ground colors and polychrome paint depicting tulips, hex design six pointed stars and stamped rosettes on the front panel.
The central panel is inscribed: Markreda Conradin 1806. Similar chests made by this hand are illustrated in M. Fabian’s book, The Pennsylvania German Dower Chest.
