Paint-Decorated Dower Chest

Poplar, polychrome paint decoration.
Condition: Original paint and brass, customary wear, lower portion of right front foot facing restored.
This painted dower chest has a lift top with painted intersecting circular patterns on the lid with an applied bull-nose molded edge. The case is decorated with two hearts on the front and dated “1784”, and hearts repeated on the sides above two small drawers with thumb-molded lips supported by dovetailed bracket feet.
