New England Redware Jug
New England, Possibly Gonic, New Hampshire
Early to mid 19th century.
Redware with a heavy lead oxide glaze over mottled orange and olive ground.
Over-all in fine condition with wear commensurate to age and use. Sporadic losses to glaze and some firing flaws. No cracks or breaks to redware.
A fine glazed redware jug, possibly Gonic, NH origin, it’s lead-glazed surface featuring mottled olive green coloration with orange ground, the ovoid form with footed base, short, slightly flared spout and applied strap handle. There is evidence of faint hand-incised horizonal rings around the shoulder of the jug.
