Levi Wells Prentice was known for being both a masterful still-life and landscape painter. This view of the lower Niagara Gorge looking north towards Lewiston depicts a farmer with a herd of cows walking along a dirt road. The depth of this view is quite extraordinary, exemplifying Prentice’s artistic ability. He was a prolific artist, and his body of work is well represented in museums and private collections.
