This charming painting of a young boy with blond curly hair holding a whip in one hand and a tasseled hat in the other, dressed in white pants with a black shirt and white ruffled collar, is standing with his dog. The portrait is complimented with an interior view of the boy standing on an ingrain carpet flanked by a red upholstered Empire stool with carved hairy-paw feet and red swag drapery in the background.This iconic folk portrait is perhaps one of Joseph Whiting Stock’s best works.
