Condition: Lined, very minor in-painting, in a period carved ripple gilt frame.
Jarvis was known best as a historical portrait painter. Along with Edward Savage, Jarvis settled in New York City in 1801 around the time this portrait was painted. He was revered by his contemporaries as a highly skilled and accomplished artist.
