John Joseph Enneking was considered one of New England’s prominent landscape painters of the late 19th century. He painted in a variety of styles including Hudson River School, Tonalism and Impressionism. Although his tonalist landscape painting and forest scenes at twilight are most sought after, he was an extremely accomplished genre and still life painter, as seen here in this wonderful still life, most likely influenced by his studies abroad and his exposure to European styles.
