This atmospheric rendering of the Baker Chocolate Factory in Milton, Massachusetts typifies Enneking’s tonalist work. After a four year stay in Europe, from 1872-1876, Enneking returned to Massachusetts inspired by the work of Corot and the other Barbizon painters as well as some of the early Impressionists. Enneking continued to reside in Boston and paint all over New England until his death in 1916.
