Condition: Lined. Excellent condition. James Babbidge was known for his rendering of sailing vessels.
The accuracy and detail with which Babbidge depicts the Rebecca J. Moulton not only displays a high level of draftsmanship but a vast knowledge of sailing ships and their rigging. The Moulton was a three-masted schooner built in New London, Connecticut. As can be seen in this painting, it sailed with a crew of six men and served as a merchant vessel transporting sugar and lumber from the East coast to the Caribbean.
