Condition: In a remarkable state of preservation. In untouched original condition.
Family tradition holds that the sitter was a sea captain. According to research prepared by Mike and Susan Payne for a forthcoming article on the artist, Goodell’s account book indicates he was in Westfield, Massachusetts in July 1829.
Goodell worked in various regions of Massachusetts and in the Hudson Valley.Albany area. He eventually settled in New York City in 1834 when he spent the remainder of his life painting portraits.
