Full body copper, copper tubing, cast zinc.
Excellent condition, retaining traces of original gilt and verdigris surface. Few early repairs filled with solder.
Provenance: From a prominent mid-western collection. Purportedly removed from a barn in Indiana by past owner.
J. W. Fiske and company were known for their high level of craftsmanship and quality of casting both out of iron and zinc. The superb quality of casting to the jockey and horse’s head in this example are strong attributes of Fiske’s work. Note that the oxidation of this material is slightly different to the copper. The compact form and motion of the horse and jockey weathervane is further complimented with dynamic proportions.
