Majestic Landscape View of a Glacier Lake with Figures
Signed and dated, H Fueschel, 1863
Oil on canvas
18” x 24”, 29” x 35” with frame
Excellent condition, found in an untouched state with the original carved, gilt frame. Recently cleaned.
Upon arriving in America, Hermann Fueschel opened his first studio in New York City around 1858. Having attended the Dusseldorf Academy at the same time as Albert Bierstadt (1830-1902), Fueschel later joined his studio, along with Worthington Whittredge and Emanuel Luetze, on 15 Tenth Street, New York in 1882. This view of a glacier lake with figures on a boat exemplifies Fueschel’s talents as an accomplished artist working alongside some of the most recognized Hudson River School painters of the day.
