Henry Walton settled in Ithaca, New York before 1836. He is believed to have worked for Stone and Clark Lithography company when he republished David Burr’s 1829, “Atlas of New York State.” Walton is known for painting both portraits and landscapes primarily in western New York State before heading west in 1851 to join the California Gold Rush scene. These recently discovered early pair of signed landscape paintings depicting Glens Falls exemplify his talents as an artist and may be the best known works by Walton to date.
