One of the best known of the Pennsylvania Impressionists, Sotter studied with both Henry Keller and Edward Redfield. He exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, The Corcoran Gallery, the Carnegie International, the National Academy of Design and at the Art Institute of Chicago.
This delightful winter landscape looking into the forest is a subject matter Sotter often painted locally and one he is best known for. Although a fairly simple composition, this work exemplifies his technique and skill as an Impressionist painter.
