Over-all in fine condition with original gilt and paint, minor imperfections This patriotic hand-carved eagle features a stylized eagle with detailed feathers, a swooping, elongated neck while clasping a shield with three stars. The imposing talons were also a signature of Stapf’s work. George Stapf was known for carving large stylized eagles for government buildings, such as the Grand Army of the Republic, as well as smaller examples that adorned households.
