Fan-Back Windsor Side Chair

New England, probably Connecticut or Rhode Island. Ca. 1785-1795.
Mixed woods; hickory, ash and maple. Over-all in excellent condition, appears to retain the original black paint over a grey primer paint.
Provenance: Private collection, Rhode Island.
This unusual fan-back Windsor has a well-defined vertical stance with a shaped crest with carved ears above spindles flanked by turned stiles and having a wonderfully shaped saddle-seat with a pronounced back edge, supported by bulbous ring-turned legs joined by turned stretchers.
