Born in Germany, Ernest Fiene came to the United States in 1912 and spent the first fifteen years studying at various New York institutions and became known as a painter of American scenes. This work, “New Snow,” 1943, depicts a church located in Easton, Connecticut. The composition was first published by Associated American Artists and Ernest Fiene as a lithograph in an edition of 250 pencil signed prints and awarded “First Purchase Prize” by the Library of Congress in 1946.
