Erastus Salisbury Field (1805-1900)

SOLD

Portrait of Elizabeth Moore, ca. 1840.
From North Adams, Massachusetts.
Oil on canvas, early lining.
35” x 26”, 40 ½” x 31” with frame.
In over-all great condition, minor restoration. The mahogany veneered frame appears to be original.
Ms. Moore is posing in a black dress with a white lace fastened with a red bow and brooch, holding a green book. These features of the sitter set in front of a stark, modelled background are distinctive attributes of Field’s style of painting.
