E. Lynde (American, mid 19th century)

SOLD

Still life of Flowers in a Porcelain Vase
Signed (l.r.): E. Lynde 1863
Oil on artist’s board
13″ x 9″
Label on verso: Prepared Mill-Board / Winsor & Newtown /
Artists’ Colourmen / To Her Majesty / …Kathbone Place London
Bears old no. 18 on the reverse.

The fine, delicate brushwork and subject matter of this painting
suggest that it is the work of a woman artist. While E. Lynde is
not a listed artist, the painting owes much to the floral still-life
style of contemporary artist Martin Johnson Heade. Heade also
favored Winsor & Newton artist boards for his small scale paintings.
