Double Sailor’s Valentine, “Forever Thine”

Probably British, early 20th c.
Composed of multicolored shells housed in a folding octagonal case, mahogany and pine.
Over-all in excellent condition.
Sailor’s Valentines were original gifts from sailors in the 19th century to their sweethearts and often included affectionate sayings in their designs, as seen with this example. The industry went well beyond Barbados and were made elsewhere (England) during the late Victorian age into the 20th century. This example is complimented with strong geometric design patterns.
