Inspired by similar classical sources, Philadelphia and New York cabinet makers both produced high-quality pier tables, often made with the most expensive woods and materials serving to show off opulence and stylish taste, however, both had regional distinctions. This pier table has more New York cabinet making attributes, such as molded rails, marble pilaster columns, brass caps and the ornately carved gilt and painted lions paw feet with incurved lower shelf.
