A wonderful example of a four, shell carved Philadelphia side chair having a shaped crest with carved swept back ears above a pierced splat flanked by stiles with a beaded edge. The trapezoid seat frame with a central carved fan has tenon through rails and is flanked by two cabriole legs with shell carved knees ending on raised disc-pad feet. An identical matched pair is illustrated in, “American Antiques from the Israel Sack Collection,” Brochure #3, Nov. 1958.
