Mahogany, pine blocks
Having a shaped crest with carved rolled-back ears flanking a central carved shell with volutes above a carved pierced splat. The trapezoid slip-seat frame is supported by cabriole legs with shell-carved knees terminating in carved ball and claw feet. The front seat rail is further embellished with a matching carved shell.
Condition: Minor shrinkage cracks to joinery of seat frame. Original slip-seat.
Provenance: Early label, Sykes, formerly from a prominent Philadelphia family.
