Calligraphy Drawing of a Lion
Mid-Atlantic States, probably Pennsylvania, ca. 1840-1860.
Ink on paper, in a period gilt frame.
Great condition, minor toning on left side from original backboards, now conserved with acid-free backing. This wonderful bold example depicting a lion is executed with a fine hand yet captures a whimsical and folky feel to the lion’s face. Provenance: Frank Miele Gallery, New York, 1992.
