Reverse painting on glass, walnut frame
The sign is a reverse painting on glass and features an extensive use of silver and gold foil gilding to high lite the lettering and a great aerial view of the factory. The factory scene and adjacent neighborhood is complete with trolley car, and a company owned freight train. The painted sign provides a great snapshot picture of turn of the century Fairhaven district of New Haven. The Yale brewing company was one of thirteen brewers in the New Haven area, and was established in 1872 by the partners of Schleippman & Spitter. The company closed in 1920
