Running Horse Weathervane, ca. 1865-1870
Full body copper, sheet copper. Copper tubing,

zinc head.
Condition: Excellent condition, minor wear to supporting bar. Untouched verdigris surface, minor traces of original gilt.
Jewell & Company were among the first weathervane manufacturers in America. They were known for their more stylized designs and offered a wide variety of styles, the horse form being the most appealing and popular. This example of a running horse has the distinct feature found on Jewell pieces, the flowing sheet copper tail and the finely cast well-defined zinc head. This weathervane is further complemented with an exceptional surface.
