Horse and Jockey Weathervane

Attributed to E.G. Washburne & Co., New York (est. 1853)
Ca. 1895-1905
Full body copper, copper tubing, cast zinc jockey figure and horse head.
Retains an early gilt surface over some areas of the original gilt, other minor imperfections commensurate to age and use.
Provenance: From a private Main Line, Pennsylvania collection; purchased from H. L. Chalfant Antiques, 1997 Philadelphia Antiques Show.
The defining feature distinguishing the rarity of this model of a galloping horse with jockey is the particular upright position of the mustached rider. It is further enhanced by the realistic anatomy accentuating the motion of the horse.
