Most likely a view of a coastal Massachusetts harbor, this work exemplifies Addison Center as an accomplished artist, showing great attention to depth perception and detail to the boast and figures. He spent most of his life in his hometown, serving as deputy collector of customs there from 1867-1885. He was also a businessman and a Captain in the Union Army. Also finding time to paint portraits, landscapes, and marine scenes, his works can today be found in Gloucester at the Independent Christian Church and City Hall. There was an exhibition of his works at the Cape Ann Historical Society in Gloucester in 1980.
