Charles W. Knapp is well known for his quintessential depictions of farm life along the rivers and shorelines of America from New Hampshire to upper state New York. This painting exemplifies his talents during the peak of the Hudson River School tradition. Knapp had the ability to incorporate luminosity in his paintings, as seen here, which further enhances the desirability of his landscape views.
He first exhibited at the National Academy of Design in New York City in 1859. He later exhibited extensively at the Philadelphia Academy of Art and continued to exhibit there until 1861.
