Dexter Horse Weathervane

Cushing & White, Waltham, Massachusetts (1865-1933)
ca. 1875-1895
Full body molded copper, copper tubing, cast zinc articulated head and mane.
Excellent condition, retaining what appears to be the original gilt, minor bends to horizontal bar.
Dexter was offered by Cushing & White in two sizes. This rare, larger imposing size weathervane exhibits great motion and movement, while being true to form and proportion. The well-defined body and head of the horse reveal the rib cage and veins, commonly seen on examples made by Cushing and White. There is no evidence of any later surface over the virtually pristine gilt surface.
