Allen Van Hoecke was a Belgian immigrant and World War One veteran living near Seattle, Washington for most of his life. He worked at the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company in Chehalis, Washington until the 1950s and later the Chehalis Packing Company. He carved wooden sculptures in his apartment in Chehalis, having been taught the art of wood carving by his father, who was a cabinet maker in Belgium.
