R. A. Savage was an American landscape painter working during the late 19th century. His works are scarce and little is known about the artist. This scene shows a fisherman below a waterfall, possibly one of the dams built on the Mohawk River starting in the 1830s to provide water to the Erie Canal and generate power for Harmony Mills, which was the largest cotton mill in the United States at the time.
