Rare Handled Burl Bowl
Rare Handled Burl Bowl
Probably Native American, ca. 1790-1800
Burl Ash Wood
Excellent condition, old mellow surface, expected wear commensurate with age.
This rare handled burl bowl is related to a group of burl articles found in southern New England that are thought to be Native American in origin. The elongated shaped handle terminating in a trefoil design resembling a turtle head seems to be the common link within this group. This example is expertly conceived and executed.
