Polychrome Decorated Folk Art Mirror
American, Probably Pennsylvania or Ohio, last quarter 19th c.
Pine, polychrome paint, applied decoupaged decoration likely added later.
Excellent condition, appears to be in untouched original condition, minor wear to decoupaged appliques.
Provenance: Found in western New York.
This wonderful carved polychrome mirror is among a small known group, with one example identified by an inscribed backboard: Drawn by D. G. Seiler, March 15, 1879.
This unique, intricately carved mirror, having a shaped, pierced frame surrounding an oval mirror is embellished with applied paint decorated carving and decoupaged appliques.
