Rare Chippendale Serpentine Front Chest of Drawers

Eastern Massachusetts, probably Salem, ca. 1775-1790.
Mahogany, figured mahogany veneers, secondary wood, white pine.
Over-all in great condition, minor imperfections, retaining original brass, with a historic varnish finish.

This rare inlaid transitional Chippendale chest has a pronounced molded-edge, serpentine front top above a conforming case with four graduated drawers embellished with crotch mahogany, book-matched veneers surrounded by inlay and banding. The chest is supported by well-proportioned ogee bracket feet.
