Pair of Running Horse Weathervanes
SOLD
J. W. Fiske and Company (founded 1862)
New York, ca 1880
Full body molded copper, copper tubing, cast zinc ears.
Both are in equally great condition with exceptional verdigris surfaces retaining some of the original sizing and gilt.
Provenance: Christie’s, Important Americana; New York; Private collection, New York; Joel and Kate Kopp, American Hurrah Antiques, New York.
Rare to find an exact pair of running horse weathervanes having complimentary weathered surfaces. When silhouetted together against a wall, the horse accentuates a better sense of movement. The dry, untouched surfaces with some modelling effect enhances their desirability among collectors.
Dimensions: 18 ¼” h., 31” w, 2 ½” d.
